Live Review: The Carnabys at the Barfly

After winning London’s Battle of the Bands competition, English rock band The Carnabys have been playing live shows all over UK and Europe and are ready to launch their upcoming debut album this next Autumn, which they partly played live during their new single The Pocket launching party at the Barfly on Friday 27, 2014.

It is easy to understand why their fame is rising fast: the singer’s stormy energy and well trained vocals plus his highly skilled band mates/musicians create a perfect alchemy, they could turn any song into a hit, especially when they play it live. Even though their music brings nothing new to the rock scene, it’s still quite entertaining, catchy and beautiful to hear. On stage the band from Richmond look like professionals who have been doing this for years, despite being very young and fresh, so it comes as no surprise at all that Blondie wanted them for her London dates at the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Academy.

Top moment of their live show at the Barfly was their live rendition of The Stone Roses‘ (who clearly influence the band’s music style) I Wanna Be Adored, not an easy piece to do and certainly always a risk for a young band to cover such a huge name as The Stone Roses. The Carnabys delivered a powerful performance that entertained the audience and possibly paved the way to a long successful career.
